Fitness and wellness encompasses far more than cardiovascular efficiency, muscular strength or the way you look.  Being truly fit means being able to participate in all of life’s wonderful activities.  Really, one of the greatest joys of life is to not only be healthy but pain-free—to be able to move like you did as a child, with complete freedom and ease.

The importance of stretching and optimal flexibility pre and post -workout and/or activity is often overlooked and should be an integral part of your workout and daily regimen.  A big source of maximizing your performance is to move your body in all directions without any limitations to your range of motion (ROM).  Not only should you be able to get through your daily life without pain, but you should be able to participate in any athletic activity and not be limited by pain or ROM, only by your skill level.  That is why stretching needs to be a component of your fitness routine:  It elongates and relaxes your muscles.  It also boosts synovial fluid in your joints—which keeps them lubricated—and improves ROM in both your joints and muscles. See below for our list of flexibility trainings and coaching sessions!

Restorative Flexibility Training

Restorative Flexibility Training that will help you straighten your body out by unlocking tight muscle tissue and also realigns elastic muscle fibers from a bundled position called “knots” or “adhesions.”  Applying static stretching with proper posture and movement patterns is the most effective technique used to restore range-of-motion, pain free movement, and postural correction.  Deep breathing is combined also to further the healing process while stretching.

PROM stands for passive range of motion which is when the practitioner performs the stretching for the client passively.  An individualized series of stretches targeted to your body’s needs is created to increase flexibility and mobility.  There will be a planning stage where there will be an ample amount of communication between the therapist and client.  This will ensure an effective and safe passive stretching plan for the client.  The stretching will be performed on the table with client completely relaxed and therapist performing a series of stretches for the allotted amount of time agreed upon.

Stretching (Training, PROM, PNF)

Stretch Training is a program created by NK Body Philosophy based on the demand and needs of my clients.  It is common that the average person whether athletic to sedentary types, do not know how to stretch properly.  This is a private stretching session where the practitioner and patient are stretching together with the practitioner guiding and leading the session.  This is a great self-care tool to add to your journey of preventative healthcare.  Breath work will be incorporated and it will all be performed on a floor with a yoga mat, block, and yoga strap.

PNF stands for proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation stretching, is a set of stretching techniques commonly used in clinical environments to enhance both active and passive range of motion.  The stretch technique involves a shortening contraction of the opposing muscle to place the target muscle on the stretch.  The practitioner will guide the client thru with the ultimate goal being to optimize motor performance and rehabilitation in the muscle.  The technique has been known to be the optimal stretching method when the aim is to increase range of motion, especially short-term changes.  Because of the quick gains in range of motion, athletes can use this method to improve performance.  It can also be used in compliance with exercise and rehabilitation programs.
